On the 1 st of August, Microsoft released Windows Server — the sixth release of the Windows Server product family. On May 21 st , Windows Server R2 was introduced and is now the latest version of Windows Server in the market. Microsoft has released four different editions of Windows Server varying in cost, licensing and features.
This edition of Windows Server is targeted towards small businesses of up to 15 users. Foundation edition can be implemented in environments where features such as file sharing, printer sharing, security and remote access are required. Windows Server R2 Essentials edition is available in retail stores around the world making it easy for businesses to install the new operating system without necessarily purchasing new hardware.
Windows Server R2 Essentials edition can run a single instance of virtual machine on Hyper V, a feature that was not available in Windows Server Essentials non-R2 edition. This single virtual machine instance can be Windows Server R2 Essential edition only, seriously limiting the virtualization options but allowing companies to begin exploring the benefits of the virtualization platform. The Standard edition is able to support an unlimited amount of users, as long as the required user licenses have been purchased.
We should note that the Standard edition supports up to 2 Virtual Machines. The Windows Server R2 Datacenter edition is the flagship product created to meet the needs of medium to large enterprises. The major difference between the Standard and Datacenter edition is that the Datacenter edition allows the creation of unlimited Virtual Machines and is therefore suitable for environments with extensive use of virtualization technology. Customers can choose to use shared EC2 instances and utilize License Mobility or they can purchase EC2 Dedicated Hosts and utilize physically dedicated hardware.

Under this model, you would deploy your service on AWS and rent remote desktop licenses for your end users on a monthly basis. In contrast, when System Center products are purchased individually as Client Management Licenses, and are not purchased as part of System Center Standard or System Center Datacenter suites, the licenses are intended for managing end user clients rather than server environments.

Q: What applications are best suited for EMP? Application that have dependencies on legacy versions of Windows and lack support on newer version of Windows are prime candidates for EMP. The public interface is configured with the IP address that will be used to communicate with clients over the network. The private interface is used for communicating with other cluster nodes. If you are going to have only two servers nodes in the cluster, you can connect them directly with an Ethernet cable.

The cluster quorum is the cluster configuration database and the cluster quorum drive is where it is stored. The quorum determines which node should be active at any particular time. You can also add additional disks to the cluster. You can use Windows Storage Spaces with failover clustering. Your servers that are going to be members of the cluster should be members of an Active Directory domain.
Failover clustering is installed through the Add Roles and Features wizard in Server Manager as a feature, as shown in Figure 1 below. Figure 1. After the feature has been installed, you create and manage clusters using the Failover Cluster Management MMC, which you will find in the Tools menu in Server Manager shown in Figure 2.
